Aspera Enterprise Server and Aspera Point-to-Point

    1. Introduction

Permission determines who can access certain files, thus it is an essential organization that corresponds to how work groups collaborate. This document instructs you how to set up the proper user permission on your server machine that runs either Aspera enterprise Server or Aspera Scp for Point-to-Point, also explains the permission of transferred files.

    2. Configuring User Accounts on the Server

The Aspera Enterprise Server and Aspera Scp for Point-to-Point use the same user account management system as your system. Users connecting to this server can use their system accounts to log in with equivalent permissions.

    2.1 Windows

All incoming connections require authentication against Aspera-enabled Windows user accounts. If you want to enable a user that doesn't already exist on your system, on Windows 2000/XP you can create one in Control Panel -> User Accounts; on Windows 2003 go to Start menu -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management. For additional help on managing user accounts, please refer to the Windows manual.

    ITS (Issue Tracking System)

An issue tracking system (also called trouble ticket system or incident ticket system) is a computer software package that manages and maintains lists of issues, as needed by an organization. Issue tracking systems are commonly used in an organization's customer support call center to create, update, and resolve reported customer issues, or even issues reported by that organization's other employees. An issue tracking system often also contains a knowledge base containing information on each customer, resolutions to common problems, and other such data. An issue tracking system is similar to a "bugtracker", and often, a software company will sell both, and some bugtrackers are capable of being used as an issue tracking system, and vice versa.

A ticket is a file contained within an issue tracking system which contains information about support interventions made by technical support staff or third parties on behalf of an end user who has reported an incident that is preventing them from working with their computer as they would expect to be able to. Tickets are commonly created in a help desk or call center environment. Typically the ticket will have a unique reference number, also known as a case, issue or call log number which is used to allow the user or support staff to quickly locate, add to or communicate the status of the users issue or request. These tickets are so called because of their origin as small cards within a typical wall mounted work planning system when this kind of support started. Operators or staff receiving a call or query from a user would fill out a small card with the user's details and a brief summary of the request and place it into a position (usually the last) in a column of pending slots for an appropriate engineer, so determining the staff member who would deal with the query and the priority of the request.

    ---MIS Assignment # 3----

Let us first define what is Automated Elections? There is no particular definition on automated election. However to give an overview Automated election is conducted through computers where people cast their vote on machines instead of paper ballots. The counting of votes is fast and the results are announced within a short period of time.

But every turning of points to an end has always questions to answer with. Are Philippines ready for the first automated elections? How will Election Automation affect the Philippines? Turns out any successful implementation have effects beyond the political arena, as pointed by any who wants to remain anonymous. We’ve gone many trials and success to every endeavor we made and I believe that our country Philippines have reached to its technological level. Yes, we are now adopting this high technology in voting. In addition to that we Filipinos have these skeptical feelings about the upcoming elections. Why is this so? Maybe, because we are afraid to come up with unsatisfied output. We don’t have any knowledge about this computerized election but do we really have to argue about pursuing or not pursuing this first automated election in the Philippines? I guess we have to discuss and analyze first the cons and pros of implementing this newly form of election.

Whether the Philippines implement an automated election is not the point in question. Automation of the election process in the Philippines is simply a way to show that we have upgraded our gears. The question is, “Have we changed our culture in politics?” Well, this time, the ballots are not the things to be protected but voting machines in the automated election.
Philippine election officials can learn how to run automated elections properly. Primarily by designing election machines that make sense to the average Filipino voter, and relying on the results of sustained testing for any necessary revisions to the system.

Malacañang Palace assume that people behind every controversy between Total Information Management (TIM) and Smartmatic would give a valid reason on making such irrelevance act on not pursuing the agreement in the incoming first automated election. This steps made by Malacañang when TIM negotiate with Smartmatic and fully quit the agreement made by two bidders in the past weeks. According to Presidential adviser on Political Affairs Gabriel Claudio, they mark that every person involves in the said controversy will surely face the consequence and answers all the questions why they change their mind about the negotiation. Who will benefit when 2010 poll automation canceled? It would give a big chance and happiness for those people who really want to steal in every election. If the government would really want to pursue a peace, organize and easy election, then poll automation should bounce back and implemented. But the problem is, cheating would mostly happen for those personnel and officials whom handling the power.

The past “Hello Garci” issue would remain from time to time if we would not make a move on how to kill this rat election. It would still happen again in different and more crucial ways if this unprogressive election would be implemented again. Well, bias politician pray that poll automation would be cancelled, so that they can do what they did in the past election. But who knows are we really confident on poll automation? It doesn’t mean that if Total Information Management (TIM) back out as a local partner of Smartmatic, computerize election would be canceled. However, officials involve in Commission on Election said that it’s a matter of time upon preparing the computerize election this 2010. Months, days and even years, they already plan this poll automation on election. Funds and Budgets are indeed ready already, in the past months they all settled it for the preparation of the incoming election together with the said companies, but unfortunately TIM decided not to continue the negotiation last weeks for the reason that they feel soar grapping. Officials and even normal citizen worry about the election for they are thinking that we have to use back the lection which we used to be. Counting of votes are they pointing why bias election appeared. Why not looking for other companies where in fact theres a lot of available companies that they could negotiate which fit on supplying machines and computers in the public?

Sour grapping that’s how the chair of the Commission on Elections, Jose Melo, described the Senate probe into the winning bidder to automate the 2010 elections. These bidders, Melo noted, have sent letters to the commission raising doubts on the bidding process, the ownership of Smartmatic, its eligibility and the capability of the voting machines. He challenged the losing bidders to file a formal suit with the commission. Under the contract, bidders who want to appeal must deposit a bond of P112m. to the Comelec which amounts to 1 percent of the projects price of P11.2b. Malacañang is unfaced by doubts senators have raised over the credibility and ability of a Barbados. Based consortium to conduct the first fully automated national and local elections in the Philippines next year. Well they believe that 11 months away from the elections they are confident that the comelec will be able to handle the situation. And luckily after a long debate these winning bidders finally accept the memorandum of agreements and still the companies to provide the computerize machines which will be used in the upcoming 2010 first automated elections in the Philippines.

After the withdrawal of Total Information Management (TIM) from its join venture Smartmatic to supply the needs in upcoming elections, senate makes a move to settle everything and their differences and put national concern first before anything else. And at last the congress fully settle the miscommunication between the two bidders which the fruit and source of the Automated Elections in the Philippines. Senators are working to make things possible and take any risk just to put things in a formal way. Press release that we don’t have to take this manual election which cause delayed of announcing winners. We don’t have to wait weeks and days for the results to come out. I wish that the automated elections will happen because that will surely help us. Learning innovations about the standard election would greatly give a confident to every voters, but having this first automated election in the country would also give an advantages and disadvantages to everyone. But we have to take risk for we take the chance. Not only for our own profit but to our "kababayan" also.

    ____________________________________________________________________

    What is Green Computing?

Green computing is the study and practice of using computing resources efficiently. The primary objective of such a program is to account for the triple bottom line, an expanded spectrum of values and criteria for measuring organizational (and societal) success. The goals are similar to green chemistry; reduce the use of hazardous materials, maximize energy efficiency during the product's lifetime, and promote recyclability or biodegradability of defunct products and factory waste.

Modern IT systems rely upon a complicated mix of people, networks and hardware; as such, a green computing initiative must be systemic in nature, and address increasingly sophisticated problems. Elements of such a solution may comprise items such as end user satisfaction, management restructuring, regulatory compliance, disposal of electronic waste, telecommuting, virtualization of server resources, energy use, thin client solutions, and return on investment (ROI).
The imperative for companies to take control of their power consumption, for technology and more generally, therefore remains acute. One of the most effective power management tools available in 2009 may still be simple, plain, common sense.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_computing

    What is Green Computing?
Green computing is the environmentally responsible use of technology.

What can I do to “green” my technology use?
    • Enable power management on your computer.
    • Power down the computer and monitor when not in use.
    • Consider plugging your computer and peripherals into a power strip with an on/off switch and turn the entire power strip off when not in use.
    • Think before you print. Do you really need a paper copy?
    • Use recycled paper if possible
    • Use Print Preview to review your job before printing it
    • Print in black and white whenever possible.
    • Print two-sided whenever possible.
    • Reuse unnecessary print jobs as scratch paper.
    • Advertise events, parties, etc. electronically or with chalk instead of print-outs.
    • Recycle!
o Use the recycling bins around campus to recycle paper, glass, aluminum, and plastic
o Toner on campus can be brought to ISR for recycling
o Beloit College computers and laptop batteries can be brought to ISR for recycling
o Locations for recycling home computers can be found here
o Recycle used alkaline batteries in Pearsons by the mail center or in the Library
    • Use email instead of faxes
    • If you are in the market for a new computer at home, consider buying an Energy Star compliant computer
    • If it’s possible, download software from the web instead of purchasing a physical installation disc

What is Power management and how does it help?

Every day energy is wasted by computers and monitors that are left on when not in use. By simply putting the hard drive and monitor to sleep after a short period of inactivity, huge energy savings can be realized. The computer should wake up with a quick click of the mouse or by pressing a key on the keyboard.

In some cases, you will need to press the power button briefly to wake the computer up. Also, be sure to shut down your computer before leaving for the day and over weekends. Use this handy calculator to get an idea of how much energy and money can be saved.

    Green Computing Saves Green

As computers play an ever-larger role in our lives, energy demands, costs, and waste
are escalating dramatically. Consider the following from the Climate Savers Computing
    Initiative:
    • In a typical desktop computer, nearly half the power coming out of the wall is wasted
and never reaches the processor, memory, disks, or other components.
    • The added heat from inefficient computers can increase the demand on air
conditioners and cooling systems, making your computing equipment even more
    expensive to run.
    • Even though most of today’s desktop computers are capable of automatically
transitioning to a sleep or hibernate state when inactive, about 90 percent of systems
    have this function disabled.
    • Some 25 percent of the electricity used to power home electronics—computers, DVD
players, stereos, TVs—is consumed while the products are turned off.

    Eco-friendly computing

We can’t live without PCs, but we need to learn how to live with them: they consume too much electricity and generate too much e-waste. A typical PC takes 110 watts to run, and there are almost a billion of them on the planet. And according to the Silicon Valley Toxics Commission, e-waste is the fastest growing part of the waste stream.
    The solution is simple
Today's PCs are so powerful that we no longer need one for each person. We can tap into the excess power in one PC and share it with many users. NComputing technology uses just 1 to 5 watts, lasts for a decade, and generates just a few ounces of e-waste.

Save on computer costs & electricity
NComputing systems cost at least 50% less than standard PCs, and since they draw less than 5 watts, you reduce your energy footprint by as much as 90% per user. And because NComputing devices produce practically no heat, they reduce the need for energy-consuming air conditioning. Electricity savings alone can pay for the NComputing virtual desktops in as little as one year. No wonder NComputing has won so many green awards.

    My Views

Living in this material world is indeed takes a lot of efforts to boost every excellent performance and good deeds in every little way in our life. We have to think that it is our responsibility to take care our of mother nature. This Green Campus Computing is one of t5he solution of this deteriorating environment of today's generation. Through this, we can help lessen and minimize every pollution into our society. Computers have their own waste that should be segregate well and place in right corner.

How will I going to implement this program to our school? Simply trough campaigns and sharing to every student in school. They have to be aware of this program knowing that they use High Technologies, and it its a privilege to know and learn such moral and valuable lesson. Support Green Campus Computing and be aware to serve and protect our mothers nature.

    I Witness..

It was a hot yet glamorous day of June 2, 2009 when we witnessed the most fabulous exhibit in Apo View Hotel. COMDAPP a word which mesmerize our eyes as we’ve seen the event. Buzz of people came around to see and attend the said event. Well as a student, do I make my self a loser? We were there and grab the opportunities to learn and experienced some various events. Booths of different companies fabricate their models and give some freebies about their products regarding technology matter. There were even visitors, exhibitors and students came from different companies and schools. Some of the exhibitors were SMART Communication, Canon Marketing Philippines, Neo, Asian Tech and many more.

It was around 1:30 pm when we registered to Tech Session because there were limited sits only and luckily we attended those seminars showcasing their systems, and products. We really had fun and learned many things which definitely improve and help us as an Information Technology student. Yes, these are just once in a lifetime and were lucky to have the event. Professionals and visitors also attended the event but mostly it was us who filled the room. Students from University of Southeastern Philippines were eager to listen to the discussion. There were about 6 exhibitors who perform their presentations through power point presentation. Yes it was indeed a grateful and meaningful event that was once happen in our. The first session I attended was about ERIC(Enterprise Resource & Information Control) Managment System. ERIC creates great automotive dealers systems for big automotive dealers around the world. The session was conducted by Mr Celmer L. Santos. Below is a brief profile of ERIC DMS I go from their site.

The second session was about the new feature hardware of HP(Hewlett Packard) which is the thin client. This presentation really amazed by everyone for their product really interesting and eye catching. They have tokens after the presentation and unfortunately I did not win. Ahahahaha...but its ok for I really had fun with the giving of tokens alone. Questions were easy to answer, however first hand to raise will win. Here are some of the definitions and terms with Thin Client Product.

    Thin Client

A thin client (sometimes also called a lean or slim client) is a client computer or client software in client-server architecture networks which depends primarily on the central serverfat client does as much processing as possible and passes only data for communications and storage to the server.
for processing activities, and mainly focuses on conveying input and output between the user and the remote server. A thin
client, sometimes called a lean client, is a low-cost, centrally-managed computer devoid of CD-ROM players, diskette drives, and expansion slots. The term derives from the fact that small computers in networks tend to be clients and not servers.

Since the idea is to limit the capabilities of these computers to only essential applications, they tend to be purchased and remain "thin" in terms of the client applications they include. As software as a service (SaaS) gains popularity, it is expected that thin clients and blade PCs will replace desktop PCs in many work and educational environments. In general, they are not as vulnerable to malware attacks, have a longer life cycle, use less power and are less expensive to purchase.

Thin client is also used to describe software applications that use the client-server model where the server performs all the processing.

It was indeed a great experienced and opportunity to everyone. We learned many things and value it. We thank COMDAPP for inviting and allowing us to see some rare opportunities that we cannot forget. This is all my experienced and have a nice day ahead.
